The Shoe Box

Shoebox dreams
Laced in red licorice vines
Baseball cards, decoder ring
Coins and a lucky charm

Shoebox holds
Doll furniture, tiny porcelain pup
Crocheted rug
Frozen Charlotte
A wheat penny
Sunday school pin

Shoebox dreams hold
Sweet embraces of penned prose
Waived with flowers and dark India ink
Saturated with caressed dreams
Newspaper clippings
A Channeled Welk
A military badge

Shoebox holds
Receipts, bank statements, coupons
Life’s property lines
Boundaries of worth
Appointment cards
A broken Orphan Annie watch

Shoebox holds
Fragments of time frozen in Sepia tones
Family I do not know
Scented with spiced tobacco and tea
A deck of cards
A marble

Shoebox holds
Vintage birthday cards
A pressed shamrock clover
Serenity prayer card
A dried carnation
Embroidered hankie with letter M

Show box holds
Imprints of life’s story
Pages revealed
Angel winged moments
Tucked in by hope’s hand
Aged by grandfather time
Chimes cast ripples of recollection

  1. Beautiful piece, Ella. I especially love the last three lines

    Tucked in by hope’s hand
    Aged by grandfather time
    Chimes cast ripples of recollection

I can feel the box. 🙂

We would love to hear your thoughts :)
