Mark is a writer/poet living in Central Missouri with his wife and three cats. His work has appeared in Four and Twenty, physiognomy in letters, MediaVirus Magazine and the inaugural volume of The American Zig-Zag. Mornings with Mother

She cowers under the tarp

of her new gown. The shame

of who she is reflected in

canvas tone of her voice.

Her eyes no longer tether

her to reality or even the couch

she slumps on

Only the Gong Show is

real and it was cancelled

two summers ago.
